West Side Story

Many thanks to Community Foundation for awarding us a grant to take some of our members to see West Side Story and attend the touch tour before hand.

Rachel Day, one of our service users wrote to us following her evening at the theatre.

Dear Reader Service,

I would like to thank you for the opportunity of visiting MK Theatre to see West Side Story.  Being registered blind, I find it very hard to take part in cultural activities and it was a lovely treat to be picked up by a reader service volunteer, taken to the theatre and then be invited to take part in a touch tour.

We were taken round the back of the stage to see the ‘props’ close up and to touch the costumes.  The icing on the cake was that members of the cast were happy to meet and talk to us.  In my case, the wonderful dancer playing Anita showed me her make up box of tricks and her beautiful dress.

The performance was audio described which helped me immensely and the music was wonderful!

Thank you Reader Service, Community Foundation, Milton Keynes Theatre and the West Side Story Cast.  It was a night to remember!

 Yours sincerely,

 Rachel Day
